I can't imagine anyone having a problem with this....
(ESPN)- The Obama administration will accept no more public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing the nation's oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters.
...Consequently, unless anglers speak up and convince their Congressional representatives to stop this bureaucratic freight train, it appears that the task force will issue a final report for "marine spatial planning" by late March, with President Barack Obama then issuing an Executive Order to implement its recommendations — whatever they may be.
Led by NOAA's Jane Lubchenco, the task force has shown no overt dislike of recreational angling, but its indifference to the economic, social and biological value of the sport has been deafening.
Additionally, Lubchenco and others in the administration have close ties to environmental groups who would like nothing better than to ban recreational angling. And evidence suggests that these organizations have been the engine behind the task force since before Obama issued a memo creating it last June.
As ESPN previously reported, WWF, Greenpeace, Defenders of Wildlife, Pew Environment Group and others produced a document entitled "Transition Green" shortly after Obama was elected in 2008. What has happened since suggests that the task force has been in lockstep with that position paper.
Then in late summer, just after he created the task force, these groups produced "Recommendations for the Adoption and Implementation of an Oceans, Coasts, and Great Lakes National Policy." This document makes repeated references to "overfishing," but doesn't once reference recreational angling, its importance, and its benefits, both to participants and the resource.
Additionally, some of these same organizations have revealed their anti-fishing bias by playing fast and loose with "facts," in attempts to ban tackle containing lead in the United States and Canada.
This is not the only access issue threatening the public’s right to fish, but it definitely is the most serious, according to Chris Horton, national conservation director for BASS.
ZIP
RECREATIONAL fishermen are going to cause the extinction of fish?
Huge hypocrisy if he claims he's "saving and creating" jobs but then puts the millions who make a livelihood off the recreational fishing business out of work (everyone who works for the "Pro Bass Shops" chain, everyone who owns a bait shop, the Mad Fisherman (well, I wouldn't mind that one), etc...)
And for what? Because it's EVIL. Sarah Palin likes to fish, so it must be wrong since she is the Anti-Christ to Liberals.

I don't know why anyone would want to recreational fish. It takes away from work, the more work you do the more taxes you can pay to our dear leader. Please people, don't make me report you to the block leader. If you do any recreation that is not authorized by the supreme,G*D like, dear leader the central commitie will hear about it.

My Grandparents are rolling over in their graves ...
"Give a man a fish and he eats for one day. Teach a man to fish and he feeds himself for his lifetime."
It goes completely against the Nanny State mentality.
THIS is the kind of shit going on down there while ObamaCare is burning hot and bright on the TV screens and front pages ...

I'm stunned. Why would anybody even consider this? Even the most half wit environmentalist knows that private sustainable use is healthier and better than farmed food and game.
Pissing off the people who have the biggest stake in keeping waters clean and abundant with fish is just stupid.

If it's not one thing it's another with these people.
Anybody ever again think a Democrat is the answer does not know what the question is.

Wow! just WOW! After this, Nothing will amaze me about this anti-social anti-people anti-everything administration.
I smell a revolution brewing, and I'm crazy with fear that it won't go down peacefully. Seriously, this is the kind of stuff American nightmares are made of.

Knew this was coming...it has been mentioned before with 'O's Czar...he has said he wanted this, more to come, be prepared...people had better start waking up...thank God for the Tea Parties...this will help the forces grow.
I have to look at the bright side here.
Anyone think this is going to work...eh?

Every iota of the life of the proletariat to be scrutinized, judged, and governed.

I've been fishing for 60 years, have a cottage on a lake in Ontario, a 16.5 foot boat with a four-stroke and thousands of dollars worth of fishing equipment. Should the Lefties pull this one off millions of people will lose their jobs.

Posted by: Baraka | March 09, 2010 at 05:09 PM
they also wanna ban killing bears even in self-defense in new jersey too
Posted by: Baraka | March 09, 2010 at 05:20 PM
Wouldn't it be better to ban the weekly Versailles-style parties at the White House? They cost a fortune, use up a ton of resources and are a fabulous insult to the rest of us who are broke, unemployed, or on the battlefield.
BTW, notice how you don't hear as much about the parties any more? Because the MSM is in full protect-mode for Obama. They don't want his partying while the rest of us burn to make him look bad.

This is goof, right? I mean come on!
Posted by: Trinity Flash | March 09, 2010 at 05:24 PM
granted people sholdn't kill bears for sport but come on killing bears in self-defense would be illegal as well

Decree Abolishing the Feudal System August 11, 1789
III. The exclusive right to hunt and to maintain uninclosed warrens is likewise abolished, and every landowner shall have the right to kill, or to have destroyed on his own land, all kinds of game, observing, however, such police regulations as may be established with a view to the safety of the public.
All hunting capitaineries, [2] including the royal forests, and all hunting rights under whatever denomination, are likewise abolished. Provision shall be made, however, in a manner compatible with the regard due to property and liberty, for maintaining the personal pleasures of the king.
It's interesting that this was enacted because the people were rioting over abuse of power by the "titled class" of elites. Back to the future.

I would think that bear attacks in New Jersey would be few and far between. Residents should get a pet Jersey Devil for self defense.

I've got a 28' wellcraft cruiser that i have taken out to the Gulf Stream many times in search of the big ones. I throw most back, although I do love me some mahi on the grill...
I'll be Damned if that son of a bitch is gonna stop me. I, and a few thousand other Carolina boys (and girls) will tell him to shove it.
There's a great day comin' folks...

This has been in the pipeline from the start of this regime, along with banning people growing their own produce. It's quite simple, really: take away people's ability to fend for themselves in every way (including being able to feed themselves and their families), make them totally dependent on The Government for everything, including all medical services (and the govt decides if you die or even get born) and, of course, remove the right to bear arms so there can be no more revolutions.

Tell me again, who is this subhuman prick pretending to be the president?
I don't recall giving him permission to dictate shit to me or mine.
Just... go away.

NFPA - National Fishing Pole Association
I remember a putrid video of Ron Howard and Andy Griffith playing like Opie and Andy to hawk for Obama. They should have removed the fishing poles from their hands in the video taken from the beginning of the original Andy Griffith Show. No more inland fishing in Mayberry thanks to Otis the President and town drunk.

Well, as you can see by my screen name, this would be a huge problem for me. To steal an old quote..."they can have my trout rod when they pry it from my cold, dead hand" No way, people will stand for this. This government is completely out of control. I too fear the coming revolution is not going to be peaceful.

dude obama estimates if we do not go green we will be killed by gorebull warming in 2095

Hunting will be next, not a full frontal assault, but from the side.
Posted by: rob | March 09, 2010 at 07:34 PM
Obama is pushing for an uprising, the blow to jobs with this BS will be tremendous. He'll probably say he'll increase jobs with the govt., hiring rangers.
BTW: Just heard China has agreed to the Global Warming Bill
Posted by: jack | March 09, 2010 at 07:40 PM
As I said in a previous post, it appears to me that the "thin blue line" has already capitulated to Obama. So if anyone thinks that they won't enforce this law ruthlessly, think again.
But even deeper, aside from Obama wanting to control every aspect of our lives, like any petty dicktator, he wants every element of our society fighting with every other element of our society. This is what scum like Obama do. Sow confusion, hatred and dissention. Divide and conquer.
I and many others warned, warned and warned everyone who would listen even a year before this son-of-a-bitch was nominated. He is evil to the core. So are those around him. So are those who still support him. And so, now, is congress.
Posted by: The REAL Bob | March 09, 2010 at 09:43 PM
Unbelievable! The effect on the economy would be staggering. The loss of jobs in the private sector will be profound, but for every person associated with the recreational fishing industry, there are two government workers or bureaucrats whose job will be impacted.
About a month ago, someone called regarding a fishing survey. As I do with all government sponsored survey takers, I told them to go fuck themselves. Now I know what it was all about.

Zip, to answer your question....YES. The dufus in the white house. Anything that exhibits freedom must be controlled by the government.

Hardly does a day go by without this POTUS, the Dems, or his cabinet saying or doing something stupid, scandalous, insane, anti-American, etc.
To this story... I live near Lake Ontario where (before kids) I also had a boat. I still get on the water and have the following observations: 1) It doesn't appear to be in any way environmentally endangered or over-fished, 2) Boaters and people fishing seem to respect the treasure we have in this lake - I don't see people randomly tossing garbage about, 3) Jobs. There's numerous marinas, bait & tackle, etc. that support boating and fishing. 4) Of the people I see fishing, it's not a stretch to assume that some are fishing to help feed their family, and 5) It's not a stretch to think the enviro-whackjobs have much more restrictive policies in the works. How long until your boat, RV, or ATV gets a special tax for some perceived sin against nature?

"I'm stunned. Why would anybody even consider this? Even the most half wit environmentalist knows that private sustainable use is healthier and better than farmed food and game."
Thats your problem Paul, you are stunned. Because you still havent wrapped your brain around the fact that this guy is a marxist that wants to control every aspect of our lives. Has it sunk in yet Paul or do you think those on the right are paranoid and just racist because al-Thuggy is "black"?
Posted by: Elric66 | March 10, 2010 at 08:53 AM
Right wing fear mongering is all this is..
Nobody is going to ban fishing...that's rediculous.
Posted by: Kevin | March 10, 2010 at 09:56 AM
You AREN'T. PAYING. ATTENTION.
Yeah, this administration WILL attempt to end recreational/commerical fishing. (For the 'little' people, anyway.) Because-- "won't somebody think of the environment!" Bozo will try to salve the leftists with something after (please) the healthcare legislations dies a protracted, agonizing death.
But it won't work. I come from a family that loves the fishing. Many tribes have fishing rights and depend on tourism/fishing for their livings. WE FISH. Its who we are.
This won't be the first time Indian Country will be faced with the fact that while leftists love the "noble savage" myth, when it comes down to it, leftists are usually much worse for tribal people than anyone else. (Like the troubles the Makah have with Greenpeace, just as one example.)
